Here are Inside Bainbridge recommendations for the weekend of April 11-13, 2014:
1. Wildflowers of Bainbridge Island
When: Friday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Where: Waterfront Park Community Center, 370 Brien Ave SE
Why: Photographer Paul Brians presents his pictures of wildflowers photographed on the Island. Read more here.
2. Katerina Wen at Bainbridge Yoga House
When: Friday, 5:30-7:30 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Yoga House, 7861 Day Road NE
Why: The well-known and very bendy Wen talks about yoga, energy, and spirituality and leads practice for two days. You don’t have to attend both days.
Cost: $60 for both Friday and Saturday, $35 for Friday night, and $40 for Saturday.
3. Building a Sustainable Economy (BASE) Lecture Series
When: Friday, 5:30-7 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Library, 1270 Madison Ave. N
Why: Amy Cortese, an award-winning journalist and editor whose work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Times Magazine, New York, Business Week, the Daily News, Portfolio, Mother Jones, Afar, The American, the Daily Beast, Talk, Business 2.0, and Wired, so basically everywhere in the world of import, talks about her book Locavesting: The Revolution in Local Investing and How to Profit From It, that last part being what everyone always seems to omit.
4. Bainbridge Ballet Dance Showcase
When: Friday, 6-8 p.m., Saturday, 1 p.m. and 6 -8 p.m., and Sunday, 1 p.m.
Where: 200 Madison Avenue N.
Why: Bainbridge Ballet students strut their stuff, ranging from hip hop to contemporary to classical ballet.
$20.00.
5. Native Plant Sale
When: Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: First Baptist Church, 8810 Madison Ave NE
Why: It’s the Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s always popular fundraiser. Get stuff that will actually grow in your yard. Enjoy the free Restoration & Landscape class from 11-12. Note the new location. Read more here.
6. Youth Fly Fishing Expo
When: Saturday, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.
Where: Battle Point Park, 11299 Arrow Point Drive NE.
Why: They just stocked the pond at Battle Point, and the fish are just sitting there waiting for you, if you’re 18 and under. The expo includes hands-on fly casting, casting games, fly tying demos, tie your own fly, live fish tank, guest speakers, and prizes. Read more here.

7. 8th Annual Bainbridge Island Walk MS
When: Saturday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge High School, 9330 NE High School Rd.
Why: It’s the biggest BI walk of the year and for a great cause. Free Pegasus coffee, food, BonBon chocolate, massages, and live music by the Hep Replacements. Read more here.
8. Bainbridge Island Little League Jamboree
When: Saturday, 9:30-11 a.m.
Where: Lower Rotary Park on Weaver
Why: This is the big kickoff of the Little League season. Parents and players are asked to arrive between 9 and 9:15. Don’t miss the flag retiring and raising by the Majors Cardinals Boy Scouts and Lafayette Chabo singing our always difficult National Anthem.
9. Farm Stewardship Work Party
When: Saturday, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Where: Suyematsu and Bentryn Family Farms, Day Rd.
Why: Make some much-needed fence repairs and enjoy a free, farm-grown lunch at noon.
Directions: Take 305 to Day Rd. Go 1/2 mile east and park at the farm stand. Call Bart at (206) 380-5327 with questions.
10. Planetarium Show “Our Island Universe”
When: Saturday, 7:30-9 p.m.
Where: Edwin E. Ritchie Observatory and John H. Rudolph Planetarium in the Helix House at Battle Point Park, 11299 Arrow Point Drive NE
Why: The name of the place is bigger than the building, but the observatory’s got plenty of sky for Astronomer Steve Ruhl to take you on a journey through our solar system.

11. Oscar Party and Documentary And The Oscar Goes To . . .
When: Sunday, 2-3:40 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Cinemas
Why: It only takes about a month for the Oscars to make their way to the Rock. Dress up to the nines and get snapped on the red carpet by the paparazzi. Don’t trip—it’s as embarrassing here as it is in LA. Get a free drink and enter the Oscar Trivia Contest and the Best Dressed contests. Then enjoy the new documentary on the history of the Academy Awards. Arrive early.

12. Paradise Imperfect with Margot Page
When: Sunday, 3-4 p.m.
Where: Eagle Harbor Book Co., 157 Winslow Way East.
Why: Seattle author Margot Page talks about her memoir about her family’s move to the mountains of Costa Rica. It’s funny.
